Berkswich History Society to launch two books

Friday, 29th November 2013.

On Monday 5th May 2014 Berkswich History Society will host a book launch at St. Thomas’ Church, Walton-on-the-Hill, near Stafford.

The Society have been given permission by Mr Richard Haszard of Milford Hall to re-publish “Letters of an English Boy” which was originally produced after the death of Richard Levett in 1917 for family and friends. The book contains letters from Richard to his parents from Eton, Oxford, Sandhurst and the Western Front.

The Society will also be launching their new book “Berkswich – Memories of the Great War”. This book tells the stories of some the people left behind, the teacher, a school boy, the farmer, the nurse, and the Vicar, among others. It also contains an incredible account of a journey taken in 1919 to France and Belgium by Maud Levett, to find the grave of her son Richard. Included are some photographs taken by Maud in 1919 of the devastation they found.

It is hoped to produce a leaflet outlining a walk around the Walton, Milford & Brocton highlighting the buildings and places mentioned in the book.
