Toothless Lions: The Royal Artillery and the Firepower Crisis of 1915

Commemoration | University of Wolverhampton
Dates From | 09 Dec 2015 to 09 Dec 2015

You are invited to a free Public Lecture by Dr Spencer Jones (University of Wolverhampton)

In 1915 the British Army was ill-equipped for trench warfare. This was especially true of the Royal Artillery who were forced to fight with obsolete weapons, inexperienced crews and insufficient ammunition. How, if at all, did the gunners overcome these problems? This talk examines the Royal Artillery as it began its slow and painful learning process in the hard school of modern warfare.

This is the sixth lecture of the University of Wolverhampton/Western Front Association First World War Centenary Lecture Series. Generously supported by a grant from the WFA, the Series is held at the University of Wolverhampton, and open to the public and will run until 2018.

Admission is free; however you are encouraged to register your details in advance with Dr Phylomena Badsey [email protected]. You will then be notified of forthcoming events in the series.
